We are students from Hunter College taking a stand on issues concerning the youth all over the world. Of particular concern is the low level of knowledge among the international community on the positive West Afrikan spirit, which has served as a unifying factor for people of that region. We seek to re-dedicate ourselves to this unifying force in our fight against the scourge of AIDS, ethnic violence, unwanted teenage pregnancies and barbaric practices such as female circumcision and slavery, which plague the region.

            We are organizing a win-win program Titled West Afrikan Kultural Education Uplifment Program (WAKEUP), Proceeds of which will be used to establish the first of many WAKEUP Centers on the continent. This will enable us to deal with the above mentioned issues in the region. WAKEUP will be hosted at different locations through out New York City over a 2-year period.

            We greatly appreciate any support you give towards the success of this endeavor. We are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss in more detail how your outfit can become more involved in WAKEUP, our adopted Cultural Renaissance program for the new millennium. We would also be most grateful for any monetary donations you may make towards this program. All cheques and money orders should be made payable to Afrikan Students Union of Hunter College.
