05/14/08: The Rise of China and U.S. Foreign Policy
The rise of China is changing the face of Asia and the world. Is China a threat to the United States? Will the rise of China undermine democracy and human rights? What does the rise of China mean for the global economy? We examined these and other questions in conversation with Michael Kulma, Director of Policy Programs at the Asia Society. Our guest speaker, along with our moderators Matthew Hallex (Freeman Asia Scholar, Roosevelt Institution Member, Hunter '08) and Matthew Alhonte (Director of Foreign Policy, Roosevelt Institution) made this event a huge success. We would like to thank Michael Kulma and all who attended.

03/38/08: Diversity Conference
The Hunter College Chapter of the Roosevelt Institution hosted a day-long Northeast regional conference to discuss diversity and race in the policymaking process. The conference, which was co-sponsored by the Center for Social Inclusion, the Drum Major Institute, the Applied Research Center, and the City College, NYU and Columbia Chapters of the Roosevelt Institution, explored the barriers to participation in policymaking, and how a lack of diversity can have adverse consequences for concrete policy outcomes. The conference focused on the effect of structural racism on the policymaking process, and engaged students through a group workshop discussing diversity policies related to the three major themes of Democratic Participation, Criminal Justice, and Community Development. If you couldn't make it to the event, the program is available for download as a pdf. Videos have been uploaded to our YouTube channel.

In cooperation with the Hunter USG, we co-sponsored an event on October 24th. NYC Councilman John Liu and Nate Loewentheil, the Executive Director of the Roosevelt Institution, spoke about local and national youth activism. Many enjoyed this unique opportunity while learning how they could become more involved. The Hunter College chapter of the Roosevelt Institution would like to thank Nate Loewentheil for donating his time, not only to speaking at Hunter, but also for meeting with us in a private session after the public event. Nate, you're an inspiration to us all! View photos...
