Who We Are
THE ROOSEVELT INSTITUTION is a non-profit, non-partisan national network of campus-based student think tanks. Its members conduct policy research on the pressing political issues facing our world, from environmental protection to equality under the law to trade and taxes. The Roosevelt Institution connects the fruits of that research to the policy process, delivering sound, progressive proposals to policymakers and advocacy groups at all levels of government.
What We Do
Roosevelt exists to train and empower students in the policymaking process and to effect real change in American politics, establishing a student voice from the inception of ideas in academia to their implementation through local, state and national governments.
Since its founding three years ago, the Roosevelt Institution has ballooned to over 7,000 student members nationwide. Together, these students have published seven national policy and research journals and a dozen more on individual campuses, and have advanced these policy goals through legislative briefings, conferences, and the media.
Our Challenges
For the 2007-2008 school year, Roosevelt’s members have selected three policy challenges to focus our work:
- Responsible community development
- Making democracy work
- Strong communities through equal justice
These challenges will spark national student conversations for the course of the school year and will guide our national program until new challenges are selected next summer. They will be featured at our 2008 DC Policy Expo, and will result in another round of 25 Ideas publications this spring, which distribute two-page idea briefs to policy makers and other influentials around the country.
