Note: Information below is primarily relevant to tax filers. For those students interested in joining the VITA program and becoming a volunteer while simultaneously learning about the art of taxation, please click here.

The Hunter College VITA site was declared the “Best E-Filing College Site” for the tax year 2007 by the SPEC IRS representative. Our rejection rate of 1.60% was the best in the New York State Territory.

For those who would like to have their returns prepared and filed, the Hunter College VITA sites will officially begin tax preparation on February 2nd, 2009 and will go on until April 14th, 2009.

Things we prepare at our VITA site:

    * Form 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ
    * Standard and Itemized deductions
    * Earned income tax credit
    * Schedule A, B, C-EZ

Things we do NOT prepare at our site:

    * Form 1040NR
    * Schedule C, D, E, F, SE

We only do e-filing. We do NOT prepare paper returns.

Items you would need to bring to the VITA site to have your tax returns prepared:

    * Photo identification
    * Social Security Cards for you, your spouse, and dependents
    * Birth Dates for primary, secondary, and dependents on the tax return
    * Current year’s tax package if you received one
    * Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R
    * Interest and dividend statements (Forms 1099)
    * Letter stating Economic Stimulus Payment
    * A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available
    * Bank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for Direct Deposit (Bring actual check)
    * Other relevant information about income and expenses
          o Total Paid for Day Care
          o Day Care providers Identifying number

To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

Saturday 10:00-5:00 P.M.

April 14th (Last Day); 5 P.M. - 8 P.M.

Note: We are closed on Feb. 12th, Feb 16th and March 2nd.

We urge you to visit us as soon as you have all your tax documents with you. Don’t wait until April to file your taxes! The sooner you file, the sooner you get your refunds.

Our site is a walk-in (no appointments necessary) site, but if you need a specific translator, you must make an appointment at HUNTERVITA@GMAIL.COM, or 212-772-4219.
