OUR JOURNEY HOME
As Part of WAKEUP, The Afrikan Students Union of Hunter College is planning its first International fact finding journey to Africa titled OURJOURNEY HOME. This event is scheduled to take place from December 1999 to First week of February 2000.
We have chosen Nigeria, a young developing, leading nation in Africa. Nigeria has over four hundred ethnic groups and nearly three thousand different dialects. Recently, Nigeria hosted an international soccer event, during which she showcased her resources. She has the need, the ability, and the facilities to host and ensure the success of WAKEUP.
While in Nigeria, we will Receive First Hand Education in Kulture by Experiencing Day to Day Life amongst These Chosen People. These students will also have the Unique Opportunity to Partake of Several Kultural Celebrations in Commencement. The students who participate in this crusade to Afrika will be the WAKEUP pioneers.
Raw Footage will be Captured and serve as documentation for promoting kultural awareness to all across the globe, especially students and youth. We will post the footage we gather on the ASU website. Also we will holding screenings of the footage on campus in the spring 2000 semester.
Our primary objective will be to visit many Universities and Kultural centers
and lay the groundwork for the establishment of the International WAKEUP
Headquarters in Nigeria. Which is scheduled to be opened in the summer
of 2000 as part of WAKEUP's HOMECOMMING MILLENIUM PROJECTS.
